Description

The Knights tapestry

The Knights tapestry is the left side of Departure of the Knights tapestry from the second of the Quest for the Holy Grail tapestries designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones in 1890 and woven by Morris & Co at Merton Abbey. The Knights tapestry shows the knights of the round table on their horses at the outset of their quest.

William Morris and John Henry Dearle also designed elements of the series based on the 15th century tale Le Morte D’Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. These were also called the San Graal tapestries and were originally woven in wool and silk on a cotton warp. They are now at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Like all our Edward Burne-Jones tapestries this is finely woven in France in an exceptional weave of 95% cotton in a delicate relief stitch. and it is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging. (Note: the background is a dark blue.)

The Knights tapestry is available in three sizes. The largest is non-returnable.
