Description
Departure of the Knights – small
The Departure of the Knights – small, is the smaller version (in not such a fine weave) of the Departure of the Knights tapestry. This is from the second of the Quest for the Holy Grail tapestries designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones in 1890 and woven by Morris & Co at Merton Abbey. It shows the Knights of the Round Table departing on the Quest. William Morris and John Henry Dearle also designed elements of the series based on the 15th century tale Le Morte D’Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. These were also called the San Graal tapestries and were originally woven in wool and silk on a cotton warp. They are now at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Like all our Edward Burne-Jones tapestries this is finely woven in France by Jules Pansu in an exceptional weave of 95% cotton in a delicate relief stitch and it is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging.
The Departure of the Knights – small is available in one size
